
Richard Lem was born in Los Angeles, California. After obtaining a BA Degree from U.C.L.A., he attended Otis Art Institute before obtaining an MA Degree from California State University at Los Angeles.
He has exhibited at California State University at Los Angeles; Gallery 818, Los Angeles; Palos Verdes Art Gallery, 69; Lynn Kottler Galleries, New York, 73; Gallerie Mouffee, Paris, France, 76; Le Salon Des Nations, Paris, France, 84, plus others.
He is listed in "Who's Who in the West", 1976-1977, 1986-1987, 1992-1993; "Who's Who in American Art", 1995-1996; "Who's Who in the World, 1996", The International Register of Profiles, 1981; and Contemporary Personalities, Accademia Italia. He received the Los Angeles Fine Arts Society and Art Guide Award for Painting in 1965.
Mr. Lem retired as a counselor with the Los Angeles Unified School District in 1988. He once trained to be a matador from 1958-60, Juarez, Mexico. He is a jazz pianist, and in 1998 completed his thirteenth Los Angeles Marathon. Currently he is training, painting, playing the piano while trying to internalize life as much as he can within the time frame given to him.
