Praise for the New CD: Shadow of the Bamboo

Dearest Carol,
Richard and I are so delighted with your poetry CD!
We've already listened to it twice, and I'm sure we'll continue to enjoy it and be inspired by it.
Thank you so much!
I think your collaboration with your teacher was a success,
and I hope you two will come up with more projects in the future.
Alicia Mesco

Carol,
How I have loved listening to your "Shadow of the Bamboo!" Your words are so moving and evocative and the music so lovely and varied.
I remember when you started playing the shakuhachi flute and now you are accomplished. (Of course, I know that was your teacher playing so marvelously on the CD). I want to hear about your poetry life since we last were in contact.
Beth Paulson

Carol,
I have listened to your new CD several times.
Each time I listen, the music hits me in a powerful way.
It really adds to the reading.
I think the music gives your poetry or makes your poetry
somewhat like a movie experience.
Words are great, but this time they are ushered in by the music.
It has the impact of a full orchestra--just one very masterfully played pipe.
The music is a very powerful accompaniment to your words.
On my laptop, the music overpowers. On my desktop, they are balanced and well integrated.
Your voice is straight-forward, more subtle in its variations than the shakuhachi, but as effective.
Master Yoshizawa has an exceptional ear for sound.
He uses the bird cries at the very beginning very effectively, your ear and mind open in anticipation for your words.
For the other sound effects: chopping, bell, chime, rain, wind, etc.,
he waits for your words to cue him. His sounds echo your words.
The music reinforces and adds another dimension or two--a reality and a depth of feeling--
to the experience. I enjoy it, each time that I listen.
It is a beautiful collaboration of sounds---natural, musical, and speech. Good work!!

Carol,
We got your card yesterday and right away I understood my major goof--
I had put your CD in my basket of things to do and there it lay,
unheard until just an hour ago! My bad! But it's on right now and it sounds very nice--
good pipes and a good reading of your work. I like the whistling effect of the flutes.
Gary Soto

Dear Teacher,
I enjoyed your CD this afternoon.
Beautiful poems, beautiful reciting tunes and, of course, beautiful flute!
It evokes memories of my homeland, my childhood. I just feel I am in the Sea of Spring!
My feeling is just what you wrote: It is the sea, not me playing this tune.
The sea, not me filling my small room with jasmine blossoms.
Congratulations! I will listen to it again and again.
Your student, Ken Xie

Carol,
Your CD is beautiful. A good blend of words and music. Thanks for it.

Thanks, Carol,
I began listening to your poetry/music CD -- it's quite wonderful,
the poems and music making a very evocative combination.
The music is very sensitively tuned to the tone of each poem. Great job!

Carol,
I rode in the car to Palm Springs and listened to your tape from my driveway
to Lowe's parking lot; completed the CD in that amount of time, exactly.
What can I say to tell you what a haunting CD you have made,
a spiritual blend of the poetry, your voice, and the music (incredibly beautiful).
What a legacy you have created, one which would motivate listeners to relate
to their own family and cultural traditions. I am deeply moved.
Love, Sallie Brown

Hello Carol,
Just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy listening to your CD.
It is wonderful! I will be ordering a few more as x-mas gifts.
Please let me know what the shipping costs would be for three more!
