Praise for "Shadow of the Bamboo"

from Duet
Your sweet bamboo should come first,
I say, not verse. Let the ear settle
on falling leaves, let the listener drift
on a sea of riffs and feel the waves

of a distant bell as if the words emerge
from this mystery of sound and sense.
The flute should not be the background
for the poetry but the poetry itself...

as we make this CD together, while
the crosswinds of Li Po and Basho drift
through our mixed strains, two stories
one heart of bamboo.
